This was the first port of entry to San
Fernando where trading took place from as early as 1813. In the early days,
ferries ran between Port of Spain and San Fernando transporting goods, very
much like the present day passenger services of the “Water Taxis” which
traverse the same route. Its terminal is located just south of the original
Jetty. A section of the Wharf housed a fishing market and Abattoir in 1924, this
fishing market still exists today.
